Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to react after Sky Sports revealed that Tottenham are interested in signing Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, with just hours to go until the transfer deadline.
Sky Sports also mention that Arsenal and Everton hold an interest in the former Bayern Munich man.
The report states that Spurs chiefs have ‘started in their efforts’ to bring Højbjerg to north London, although Dan Sheldon of The Daily Echo revealed shortly after the news broke that Southampton have no intention of allowing their captain to leave St Mary’s.
The Denmark international has started 22 of Southampton’s 24 games this season, while also appearing in the club’s last outing, coincidentally coming in an FA Cup tie against Tottenham, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Højbjerg’s contract with the Saints expires in the summer of 2021, and Ralph Hasenhuttl declared that renewal talks will not take place until Southampton reach 36 points in the Premier League – as things stand, they are on 31 points.
The Athletic’s Carl Anka also made the interesting revelation that the midfielder and Southampton have a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ in regards to a new deal.
Let’s see how the Southampton fans on Twitter reacted to the Højbjerg news…
To kick off the discussion, these two fans named their price for the Southampton No.23.
Adam Baker ordered the club to “chuck £50m on his head” before saying that Everton would “certainly pay it”.
Also, ‘Ralph’s Revolution’ said that “£120m should do it” – over double what Adam thinks Højbjerg is worth!
Elsewhere, Tom said that the 24-year-old “is never as good as some people like to make out” before calling Højbjerg a “proper passion merchant” – ouch.
However, Tom did concede that selling the midfielder now would be “suicide” given the lack of options in that department at Hasenhuttl’s disposal – this supporter “wouldn’t mind” seeing Højbjerg depart in the summer, though.
Meanwhile, Saint Harris said that all of this transfer talk surrounding the Dane “smells like agent scaremongering”.
Lastly, these two supporters also shared their views on Tottenham’s interest.
Will Parrott said that Højbjerg “would be an idiot” to join the north Londoners as he’d be fourth or fifth choice behind Moussa Sissoko, Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Winks and Giovani Lo Celso.

James White then suggested that Jose Mourinho is simply trying to unsettle the former Bayern Munich man ahead of the FA Cup fourth round replay between Spurs and Southampton – a bold statement.
In other news, Carl Anka has issued an update on the future of Kevin Danso as clubs circle around him…
