Leeds United attacker Kemar Roofe posted an encouraging update on the stories section of his Instagram account on Monday saying “not long to go now”, as he appears to be getting closer to making his first-team return.
What’s the word, then?
Well, the Yorkshire outfit’s top goalscorer has been missing since the 2-1 win against Swansea City last month, where he suffered a knee ligament issue.
Luckily, the 26-year-old didn’t require surgery and he has been working to return as soon as possible since, with his recent Instagram story suggesting he may not be too far away from featuring for them again.
In his absence, Patrick Bamford has taken up the centre-forward mantle and Marcelo Bielsa’s men have taken 12 points from a possible 18 available in the league.
Do they need him back?
They certainly do.
While their haul in terms of points in recent weeks has been steady enough, failing to find the net against either Queens Park Rangers or Sheffield United – where they failed to get any of their 17 shots on target – shows that they are missing the clinical finishing of Roofe.
The former Oxford United man has been such a key player under the Bielsa regime this term, and while the manager won’t want to rush his key man back too quickly, he will also be desperate to have him involved in an automatic promotion race that looks as though it could go right down to the wire.
